IRVING, Texas (Nov. 4, 2014) – The National Football Foundation (NFF) & College Hall of Fame announced today that the Pasadena Tournament of Roses® will be the presenting sponsor of the presentation of the Asa S. Bushnell Cup, which honors the Ivy League Football Players of the Year, on Monday, Dec. 8 as part of the festivities surrounding the NFF Annual Awards Dinner in New York City.

“We are extremely pleased to support the presentation of the Asa Bushnell Cup,” said Bill Flinn, the executive director of the Tournament of Roses. “The young men selected for this unique honor clearly define what it means to be a student-athlete. They have succeeded at the highest levels at some of our nation’s most prestigious academic institutions, and we take great pride in playing a role in holding them out as examples for the next generation to emulate.”

The Bushnell Cup will be presented the day before the 57th NFF Annual Awards Dinner at a special press conference and reception in the Vanderbilt Room of the famed Waldorf Astoria Hotel at 12:30 p.m. ET. The presentation will mark the fifth-consecutive year that the NFF has partnered with the Ivy League to recognize the conference’s offensive and defensive players of the year.

“The Tournament of Roses and the Ivy League represent two of the richest traditions in college football,” said NFF President & CEO Steve Hatchell. “And the NFF is proud to stand side-by-side with them in supporting this unique event that provides the entire college football community a powerful platform for promoting some our nation’s finest student-athletes.”

Two offensive and two defensive finalists along with their respective head coaches will be on hand as Ivy League Executive Director Robin Harris unveils the winners’ names in front of a packed crowd of media representatives, NFF Board members and Ivy League football alumni, dignitaries and friends. The 2014 Bushnell Cup finalists will be announced on Tuesday, Dec. 2.

“We welcome the Tournament of Roses to our Bushnell Cup presentation,” said Harris. “Bolstering our celebration of Ivy League football with this storied organization, along with our committed partner in the National Football Foundation, enhances our opportunity to showcase the successes of young men who epitomize the balance of being students and athletes.”

Presented annually since 1970, the Asa S. Bushnell Cup honors its namesake, a 1921 Princeton alumnus and the commissioner of the Eastern College Athletic Conference from 1938 to 1970. The Bushnell Cup is awarded by a vote of the Ivy League’s eight head football coaches to the players who display outstanding qualities of leadership, competitive spirit, contribution to the team and accomplishments on the field.
