PASADENA, Calif. (Jan. 15, 2015) – This evening, the Tournament of Roses 2016 President Mike Matthiessen announced the leadership and organizational structure for the 2015-2016 Tournament of Roses. Alex P. Aghajanian, a Tournament volunteer since 1989, was elected to the Executive Committee and will serve as the association’s president in 2023. He will provide leadership for the 134th Rose Parade® and the 109th Rose Bowl Game® on January 2, 2023. Aghajanian was appointed a Tournament of Roses chairman in 2006 and a director in 2009. He has served on and chaired various committees including Communications & Credentials, Food Services, Formation, Music, Queen & Court and Transportation.

Professionally, Aghajanian is an attorney with the Law Offices of Alex P. Aghajanian in Pasadena. He was recognized as a Martindale-Hubbell AV-Preeminent Lawyer from 2000-2014 and was named by his peers as a Top Attorney in Pasadena in 2010 and 2014. In 2010, Aghajanian and his wife, Paula, founded Dream With Me Foundation which focuses on music education, providing scholarships and grants in vocal and instrumental arts. Throughout his career, Aghajanian has served as a guest lecturer in the business law area at several local universities.

In addition to his many years of service in the Tournament of Roses, Aghajanian currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Rose Bowl Operating Company, is a member of the Habitat for Humanity Advisory Counsel and the Pasadena Bar Association. He is a former member of the Pasadena Unified School District Board of Education and served on the District’s Board Advisory Counsel. Aghajanian previously served on the Board of Directors for the Alkebu-lan Cultural Center and the East Altadena Little League Board of Directors and Foundation Committee while managing and coaching Little League baseball and AYSO soccer. He has volunteered with many local organizations including The Boys and Girls Club of Pasadena, the Pasadena Senior Center, and Huntington Hospital.

Aghajanian is a lifelong resident of the Pasadena and Altadena areas. He graduated from Pasadena High School and earned an Associate of Arts degree from Pasadena City College. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree from California State Polytechnic University at Pomona, Aghajanian earned a Juris Doctor from the University of La Verne. He and his wife, Paula, have been married for 32 years and have three children.
In addition, the following officers were elected to serve with Aghajanian on the 14-member Executive Committee: Brad Ratliff, executive vice president; Lance Tibbet, treasurer; Gerald K. Freeny, secretary. Rich Chinen, president of the Tournament of Roses in 2014-2015, serves as past president.

Re-elected to the Executive Committee as vice presidents are Laura V. Farber, Robert B. Miller and Amy Wainscott. The five appointed at-large members are Jerome Cannon, Amy Garrity, J. Michael Gin, Karyn Grime and Philip V. Orozco. Matthiessen also announced the election of three new members to the Tournament of Roses board of directors: Dave Link, Kathy Perini and Alex Young.
