PASADENA, Calif. (October 13, 2015) – Today the Tournament of Roses announces a first-of-its-kind deal with corporate sponsor, Northwestern Mutual. As a sponsor of America’s New Year Celebration – including presenting sponsorship of the Rose Bowl Game and official sponsorship of the Rose Parade® presented by Honda — Northwestern Mutual will align its core values of teamwork, planning, strength, honor and discipline with the tradition, heritage and overall spirit on display each year in Pasadena.

"The Tournament of Roses is excited to extend our partnership with Northwestern Mutual," said Mike Matthiessen, 2016 Tournament of Roses President. "When Northwestern Mutual came on board last year as the presenting sponsor of the Rose Bowl Game, we realized that our two organizations share similar ideals and we started looking for opportunities to build the relationship. The Tournament of Roses welcomes the opportunity to enhance the strength and tradition of our iconic events with such a great organization."

Northwestern Mutual will expand its annual presenting sponsorship of the Rose Bowl Game, the annual Youth Football Clinic, and the Tournament of Roses, to also include the 2016 America’s New Year Celebration Sponsor Rose Bowl Game VIP Tailgate and the 2015 Rose Bowl Game Hall of Fame. The company will continue to feature a float in the Rose Parade, and will become an official sponsor of the parade, with exclusivity across the categories of Life Insurance, Retirement Planning, Wealth Management and Financial Planning.

“As a company that has helped Americans achieve financial security for nearly 160 years, we have a tremendous amount of respect for the heritage and tradition of the Tournament of Roses and all the events that make up one of the most iconic New Year’s celebrations in America," said Conrad York, vice president of marketing at Northwestern Mutual. “We are proud to be the presenting sponsor of the Rose Bowl Game, and now we’re thrilled to also be the first-ever sponsor of America’s New Year Celebration.”

The Tournament of Roses’ deal between the Rose Bowl Game and Northwestern Mutual is part of a broader agreement with ESPN secured in 2014. Northwestern Mutual will be the presenting sponsor of the Rose Bowl Game annually, including when the bowl hosts the College Football Playoff Semifinal in 2018.
