2005

The 116th Rose Parade commenced with an entertaining opening ceremony featuring Rose Queen Ashley Moreno, Tournament of Roses President Dave Davis and Grand Marshal Mickey Mouse along with many of his Disney family members in a singing, dancing performance. The parade theme, Celebrate Family, was beautifully represented by the magnificent floats, bands and equestrians in the Rose Parade.

The 2005 Rose Bowl Game featured a historic match-up – the first time ever that the University of Michigan and the University of Texas have met on the gridiron, as well as the first time the Longhorns ever visited the Rose Bowl. The game was exciting to the finish, with a last minute field goal giving the Longhorns a 38-37 victory over Michigan.

2006

The 117th Rose Parade, featuring U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor as Grand Marshal, was held on Monday, January 2, 2006 in observance of the Tournament’s “Never on Sunday” tradition. Though it rained throughout the parade, the festivities went on with great success. The parade began with an opening spectacular featuring Grammy Award winner LeAnn Rimes. The parade theme, It’s Magical, was beautifully represented by the magnificent floats, bands and equestrians in the Rose Parade.

The 2006 Rose Bowl Game National Championship was held on Wednesday, January 4 and featured two undefeated teams – the no.1 ranked USC taking on the no.2 ranked Texas Longhorns. It was one of the most exciting games in Rose Bowl history, with Texas edging out USC 41-38 in the last quarter to earn the Longhorns their first National Championship since 1970.

2007

Led by legendary film maker, George Lucas, the 118th Rose Parade celebrated the theme Our Good Nature on Monday, January 1, 2007. The Parade began with an exciting opening show featuring Tony Award winning actress, Kristin Chenoweth, Tournament of Roses President Paul L. Holman and Miss America. Parade highlights include the Star Wars Spectacular which featured two floats, 200 storm troopers and the Grambling University marching band.

The 93rd Rose Bowl Game featured no. 5 ranked USC defeating no. 3 ranked Michigan 32-18 in a traditional Pac-10 versus Big Ten matchup.

2008

In the spirit of the theme, Passport to the World’s Celebrations, the 119th Rose Parade was led by Grand Marshal Emeril Laggasse on Tuesday, January 1, 2008. The festivities kicked off with an explosive opening show featuring dancers and flags from around the world and culminated, for the first time, with a flyover by Navy F18 hornets. Outwalkers representing various countries and cultures entertained crowds as the floats transformed before people’s eyes. The international array of bands and equestrians amused the viewers with their display of talent and dedication.

The 94th Rose Bowl Game hosted the University of Illinois Fighting Illini and the University of Southern California Trojans in a traditional Big Ten versus Pac-10 match-up. The Trojans were victorious over the Illini with a 49-17 final score in The Granddaddy of Them All.

2009

The 120th Rose Parade, themed Hats Off to Entertainment, lived up to its name by entertaining millions of viewers in Pasadena and around the world. The New Year’s Day festivities were led by Grand Marshal Cloris Leachman, an Oscar- and Emmy-winning actress. The opening show truly dazzled with amazing dancers, great musicians, and a tip of the hat from Honda’s 50-foot-tall robot, Asimo.

The 95th Rose Bowl Game featured the USC Trojans, participating in their fourth consecutive Rose Bowl Game, in a traditional Big Ten versus Pac-10 match-up against the Pennsylvania State University Nittany Lions. The Trojans defeated the Nittany Lions 38-24.
