Fresh from their trip to the moon, astronauts Charles Conrad, Richard Gordon and Alan Bean, the heroes of the Apollo 12 moon landing, led the Parade as grand marshals.

1971
Two nineteen-year-old co-eds, Kathy Howie and Kathy Parker, are the first women to pilot a float while concealed in the drivers' compartment underneath a float.

1975
Navajo Nation Band, Window Rock, Arizona, is first Native-American marching band to participate in the Parade.

1976
The Rose Parade is designated by the American Revolution Bicentennial Administration as the kickoff event of the Nation's Bicentennial Celebration. A special prologue to the Parade features the Third U.S. Infantry Regiment of the United States.
