INFORMATION ON APPLYING TO MARCH IN THE ROSE PARADE

The Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association encourages marching bands from all over the world to apply for the opportunity to participate in the 5½ mile Rose Parade. The application process begins by submitting a completed application, a videotape as well as additional information on your band such as color group photographs and letters of recommendation. The Tournament of Roses Music Committee listens to and reviews this material and selects the bands which will participate in the Rose Parade based on the performance and quality of music demonstrated by each marching unit, as well as the band's overall presentation. Nothing should be submitted to us until you complete the application form. You may request an application form by submitting your information in the spaces provided at the bottom of this page or completing the attached PDF application form, making a copy, then sending it in with the appropriate requested materials.

BAND REQUIREMENTS

The Rose Parade welcomes drum majors, banner or block sign carriers, tall flags and band directors to march with the bands. Non-playing members are normally limited to a maximum of 15% of total marching members since space along the Parade route is limited. To give as many bands as possible an opportunity to march in the Rose Parade, generally once a high school band has performed in the Rose Parade, it will again be eligible for participation after three years. For members playing with a high school band, everyone must be at least 13 years old.

ONCE A BAND HAS BEEN INVITED

After reviewing applications, the Music Committee extends invitations to 22 marching bands, which excel in their style of musical sound and excellence in precision. Each band is invited more than one year in advance, giving the members plenty of time to raise the funds necessary to participate in the Rose Parade. There are no entry fees to march in the Rose Parade, however each unit funds its transportation, accommodations and all other expenses in Southern California. To bring an out-of-state band to the Rose Parade can cost from $1500 to $1700 per person.

If you are interested in having a band appear in the Rose Parade, please fill out the request form below, and an application will be mailed to you or complete the attached PDF application form, making a copy, then sending it in with the appropriate requested materials. (The application is not an invitation to participate in the Rose Parade.)
