TOURNAMENT OF ROSES® ANNOUNCES LEADERS OF 2013 ROSE PARADE® PRESENTED BY HONDA AND ROSE BOWL GAME® PRESENTED BY VIZIO

Laura V. Farber Elected to Executive Committee; Will Serve as President in 2020

      PASADENA, Calif. (Jan. 20, 2012) – As her first official duty, Sally M. Bixby, president of the Tournament of Roses Association, announced today the leadership and organizational structure for the 2012-2013 Tournament year. Laura V. Farber, a Tournament volunteer since 1993, was elected to the Executive Committee and will serve as the Tournament’s president in 2020.  She will provide leadership for the 131st Rose Parade and 106th Rose Bowl Game on Jan. 1, 2020.

    Farber most recently served as the chairman of Formation Area.  She has also chaired the Judging, Decorating Places and Membership Development committees. She was appointed a Tournament Chairperson in 2004 and a Tournament Director in 2010.

    Professionally, Farber is a partner in the Pasadena law firm of Hahn & Hahn where she practices civil litigation with an emphasis in employment disputes. 

    Farber is a member of the American Bar Association where she serves as immediate past chair of the Commission on Youth At Risk, chair of the General Practice, Solo Small Firm Division, chair of the House of Delegates Credentials and Admissions Committee and past chair of the Young Lawyers Division.  She is also a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, State Bar of California, California Women Lawyers, Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles, National Association of Women Lawyers, Mexican-American Bar Association, Latina Lawyers Bar Association and the Hispanic National Bar Association. 

    In addition to her 19 years of service in the Tournament of Roses, her civic activities include four years as a member of the board of directors for the YWCA, a four year member of the school site council for Marengo Elementary School in South Pasadena from 2007-2010, an officer of the South Pasadena Middle School Booster Club and a member of Vecinos of South Pasadena, an organization that supports education and culture in the local community.

    She has been named one of the top 50 women lawyers in Los Angeles and featured in the Los Angeles Business Journal. In 2003, she received the American Bar Association’s Commission on Ethnic and Racial Diversity in the Profession – Spirit of Excellence Award and, in 2004, the YWCA San Gabriel Valley Women of Excellence in the Law Award.
    
    Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Farber's native language is Spanish. She earned her J.D., cum laude, in 1990 from Georgetown University and her B.A., cum laude, with departmental highest honors in 1987 from University of California at Los Angeles.  She is admitted to the bars of California, the District of Columbia, Ninth and D.C. Circuits and the U.S. Supreme Court.
    Farber and her husband, Tomás Lopez, reside in South Pasadena with their two children, Christopher, 15 and Jessica, 12. Her hobbies include music, tennis and reading.

    In addition, the following officers were elected to serve with Farber on the 14-member Executive Committee: R. Scott Jenkins, executive vice president; Richard L. Chinen, treasurer and Ira C. (Mike) Matthiessen, secretary. Richard W. Jackson, president of the Association in 2011-2012, is past president. 
    
    Re-elected to the Executive Committee are vice presidents Brad Ratliff, Lance M. Tibbet and Gerald K. Freeny. The five appointed at-large members are Sindee B. Riboli, Carlos E. Clayton, Esther Campos-Ball, Darryl S. Hallie and Lily H. Harada.  
    
    President Bixby also announced the election of three new members to the Association’s board of directors including Anthony J. Alexakis, Pamela S. Knapp and James P. Zeutzius.

About the Pasadena Tournament of Roses®

            The Pasadena Tournament of Roses is a volunteer organization that annually hosts the Rose Parade® presented by Honda, Rose Bowl Game® presented by VIZIO and various associated events. The 124th Rose Parade presented by Honda, themed Oh, the Places You’ll Go!™”, will take place Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at 8 a.m. (PST) featuring majestic floral floats, high-stepping equestrian units and spirited marching bands.
