TOURNAMENT OF ROSES® FOUNDATION GIVES $98,000

PASADENA, Calif. (May 23, 2011) – PasadenaTournament of Roses Foundation President Wellington Chen distributed grant checks totaling more than $98,000 to 25 civic, educational and cultural organizations in the San Gabriel Valley at the Tournament of Roses Foundation Grant Award Reception held May 18 at Tournament House. Eight of the 25 organizations funded are first-time grant recipients. These organizations are All Saints Church Foster Care Project, Club 21 Learning & Resource Center for Individuals with Down Syndrome, Ecumenical Council of Pasadena Area Congregations, Light Bringer Project, Palpitating Panthers Jump Rope Team, Pasadena Arts Council, San Gabriel Educational Foundation and YMCA of West San Gabriel Valley.

Established in 1983, the Tournament of Roses Foundation is a non-profit corporation that manages charitable contributions on behalf of the Tournament of Roses. The Foundation supports charities in the Pasadena area by funding sports and recreation, visual and performing arts, and volunteer motivation and leadership development. The awards ranged from $1,000 to $10,000. These grants will help support new and ongoing programs benefiting children, teens, adults and seniors.

Girls on the Run of Los Angeles County	Program personnel for the youth development program
Ideal Youth Incorporated	Implementation of a rigorous job readiness internship training program
Light Bringer Project	Materials and personnel for the ROOM 13 arts and enterprise program

Mothers’ Club Family Learning Center	Leadership training for the center mothers & Volunteer Program

Pasadena Arts Council	Workshop leader salaries for SAPPA (Scholarship Audition Performance Preparatory Academy)
Pasadena Educational Foundation (Pasadena Unified School District)	Purchase of drumline equipment & replacement parts to benefit the marching band programs at PUSD’s four high schools (Blair, John Muir, Pasadena and Marshall) and three of the middle schools (Eliot, Wilson and Washington)
Pasadena Summer Youth Chamber Orchestra	Student musician stipends, conductor honorarium & venue rental for the Young Artist’s Concert
San Gabriel Educational Foundation	Purchase of new musical instruments for Jefferson Middle School Orchestra and Band
Shumei Arts Council of America	Artistic fees for 2 Children’s Concerts & a Clyde Montgomery Concert in 2011
Side Street Projects	Creative woodworking classes for all 3^rd graders at 15 PUSD elementary schools
