Our float expresses the concept that we seek to broaden the mind, elevate the character of humankind and we will go anywhere to spread our message of Odd Fellowship. We invite people to join with us as we travel life’s paths on a series of “Elevated Adventures”. The purpose of the Organization is to provide educational opportunities and cultural understanding for the public. To encourage peace and goodwill to all people everywhere. It will help to make the world a better place by seeking to improve and elevate the character of humanity.

Odd Fellowship is dedicated to broadening of the mind and the elevation of character without taking from the individual any of his/her rights or privileges or the duties each owes to his/her God or country. Odd Fellowship is the teaching and application of: Friendship, Love, and Truth; Faith, Hope, and Charity; and Universal Justice. These are the principles of the Order’s doctrine, the basis for thought and action that will create peace and harmony among all peoples. Odd Fellowship means social and international brotherhood and sisterhood. “Odd Fellowship means service…with a personal feeling of infinite hope, the joy of a good deed well done, and the memories, which sweeten the soul and elevate the character of humanity”.

"As Odd Fellows, we should aim to improve and elevate every person to a higher, nobler plane; to extend sympathy and aid to those in need, making their burdens lighter, relieving the darkness of despair; to war against vice in every form, and to be a great moral power and influence for the good of humanity." Today, Odd Fellows and Rebekahs continue to exist with nearly 10,000 lodges in approximately 28 countries consisting of men and women who have united together for mutual aid and conviviality, providing social and practical support for each other and their communities in every way possible.

Even though we have come a long way, there are still more that needs to be done. Working together, we make a difference! We achieve this by working in our local Communities, States, Provinces, or nationally we understand that we can make a difference in the lives of people in our World. We are a friendly society that have come to be known as "Odd Fellows" because it was odd to find people organized for the purpose of giving aid to those in need and of pursuing projects for the benefit of all mankind. It was believed that they were "an odd bunch of fellows" who would behave in such a selfless and seemingly impractical fashion.

Odd Fellows Rebekahs Rose Float Corporation (501c3) is established for the purpose of providing educational opportunities and cultural understanding for the public by promoting a public relations vehicle to encourage peace and goodwill to all people everywhere. It will help to make the world a better place by seeking to improve and elevate the character of humanity. The Odd Fellows Rebekahs Rose Float Public Relations Vehicle promotes interest and encourages donations to help fund our program to provide educational opportunities to students and assistance to underprivileged and orphaned children, The Odd Fellows and Rebekahs seek To improve and elevate the character of man.

In the 17th Century England, people were facing a lot of challenges. Life was tough, often lawless and desperate. Medicine was still crude and in a primitive stage. Life expectancy was about 45 to 50. There was lots of sickness, orphaned kids, widowed mothers and many people cannot afford to pay a decent burial for the dead. So, ordinary people from different trades and walks of life found it necessary to group together as brothers and sisters and contribute some of their hard-earned wages to a common fund which they could use for unfortunate times such as sickness, losing a job and even death. They would work together to help each other and the unfortunate families back on their feet, whether it was rebuilding a barn that had burned or putting in a new crop after a devastating season.

Such altruistic and friendly society came to be known as "Odd Fellows" because it was odd to find people organized for the purpose of giving aid to those in need and of pursuing projects for the benefit of all mankind. It was believed that they were "an odd bunch of fellows" who would behave in such a selfless and seemingly impractical fashion. Odd Fellows are also known as "The Three Link Fraternity" which stands for Friendship, Love and Truth. The Independent Order of Odd Fellows was founded on the North American Continent in Baltimore, Maryland, on April 26, 1819 when Thomas Wildey and four members of the Order from England instituted Washington Lodge No. 1. This lodge received its charter from Manchester Unity of Odd Fellows in England. At that time, the city was suffering both a yellow fever epidemic and mass unemployment so they dedicated the organization to "Visit the sick, relieve the distress, bury the dead and educate the orphans."

Odd Fellowship became the 1st national fraternity to include both men and women when it adopted the beautiful Rebekah Degree on September 20, 1851. This degree is based on the teachings found in the Holy Bible and was written by the Honorable Schuyler Colfax who was Vice President of the United States during the period 1868-1873. Odd Fellows and Rebekahs were also the first fraternal organization to establish homes for our senior members and for orphaned children. Today, Odd Fellows and Rebekahs continue to exist with nearly 10,000 lodges in approximately 28 countries consisting of men and women who united together for mutual aid and conviviality, providing social and practical support for each other and their communities in every way possible.

Even though we have come a long way now, there are still more needs to be done. Working together to achieve these goals and help our fellow men creates a bond that cannot be described – a brotherhood and sisterhood of benevolence that can only be felt as an active participant. Working together, we can really help make a difference! The Order at Work: • The Odd Fellows and Rebekahs spend over $775 million in relief projects annually • The Educational Foundation provides substantial loans and grants to students • SOS Children’s Village provides a caring home for orphaned children in Cambodia • Living Legacy focuses on planting trees and enhancing our environment • Visual Research Foundation supports vision care & research via the Wilmer Eye Institute. • United Nations Pilgrimage for Youth • Annually sponsor a float in the Rose Parade: 2012 is our 59th year unbroken and the 62nd entry in the Pasadena Rose Parade.

The Float is decorated by volunteers from the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs and others. They arrive on December 26, from across the United States and Canada and around the world. These volunteers are from all walks of life and ages, joining together to decorate the float. These volunteers work with a dedication of love to produce the best float with the care and patience’s for detail.
