The Cities of Alhambra CA and Granada, Spain are celebrating their 50th anniversary as Sister Cites. The float represents several historical monuments found in Granada, including the Alhambra Castle and the Court of the Lions.
A major goal of sister city relationships is to foster a cultural exchanges and visitations. This year’s Parade theme lent itself perfectly to encourage that goal.
This entry will kick off a yearlong celebration between the two cities.
"Going to Granada Spain!" depicts a palace and fortress complex located in Granada, Andalusia, Spain known as The Alhambra. The decoration consists, as a rule, of stiff, conventional foliage, Arabic inscriptions and geometrical patterns wrought into arabesques. The float also features a working fountain down the middle. The fountain shoots water 12' into the air. The tank that contains water, holds 90 gallons.
There are 7000 roses consisting of dark lavender, white, peach, red and hot pink in color and 2000 Gerberas.
Alhambra, now in its 85th year in the Tournament of Roses Parade, is located in the San Gabriel valley approximately eight miles east of downtown Los Angeles. As of the 2010 census, the city officially has 83,089 residents.
